This blog contains the text of my attempts at Nanowrimo, which is the annual novel-writing exercise in which thousands of people sign up to produce 50,000 words each during November. The blog was set up for my first go, in 2008: ‘Nanowrimo Winner’ was the name of the story I wrote, and it was meant to be a sort of joke – my hero actually wrecks his life in the process of completing his story. Unfortunately (in a way), I did actually succeed in getting out the required 50,000, so the name now seems a little more ‘in your face’ than I really like; but I feel I’m sort of stuck with it. I’m very modest and unassuming really.
Many Nanowrimo contenders keep their manuscript a close secret, fearing that unscrupulous rivals might steal it and publish it as their own. They may even go to the lengths of putting the text through a basic encryption before submitting it to the word count. That’s very much not the way I look at it: I post here each bit of text I write, so that anyone who wants can read the story as it appears. In this way I provide an additional incentive for myself, since failure would inevitably be public. Well, I say ‘public’ – my mother would probably get to know about it.
I’ve got a personal blog Disgressed and a blog which is about consciousness rather than about me – and is much more popular – Conscious Entities. Go on, have a look.
